NC Representative Charles Thomas Attacks Congressional Candidate Carl Mumpower After Radio Debate

I don't hardly know what to think about the vicious nature of NC House District #116 Charles Thomas' attack on his fellow Republican, Dr. Carl Mumpower, after yesterday's debate between Carl Mumpower and Congressman Heath Shuler on WWNC-AM yesterday.

I first noticed a viciousness in Thomas during the Republican primary, when he was a supporter of Governor Mike Huckabee. We are in a few of the same Yahoo! Groups, and I was surprised at the level of hatred he seemed to exhibite toward Governor Mitt Romney in several emails. Well, you know, we can all get carried away by the heat of battle to support our man. It happens to most of us.

My second notice was his statement during the Gas Crunch that threatened action against local businesses. I thought that was funny, because it was the government that he served in that caused the problem to get so bad in the fist place...with passage and enforcement of a bogus "price-gouging" law. There is no such thing, at least to capitalists...however, it is part of the Holy Sacrament of Socialism that price gouging exists, and that prices must be controlled by he heavy hand of government action.

Then, there was yesterday. I'll let you listen to the audio.

Methinks Charles Thomas doth protest too much at the word socialism. I suggest that he take a good, long hard look at himself in the mirror.

It is a very good thing that he is not running for re-election.

Lefties Look for Dirt on Joe the Plumber

A state agency has revealed that its checks of computer systems for potential information on "Joe the Plumber" were more extensive than it first acknowledged.

Helen Jones-Kelley, director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, disclosed today that computer inquiries on Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher were not restricted to a child-support system.

The agency also checked Wurzelbacher in its computer systems to determine whether he was receiving welfare assistance or owed unemployment compensation taxes, she wrote.

Jones-Kelley made the revelations in a letter to Ohio Senate President Bill M. Harris, R-Ashland, who demanded answers on why state officials checked out Wurzelbacher.

Harris called the multiple records checks "questionable" and said he awaits more answers. "It's kind of like Big Brother is looking in your pocket," he said.

And lefties claim they are worried about the government eavesdropping on them...when lefties themselves have no respect for someone's privacy. Seems the height of hypocrisy to me, even more so due to the political motivation behind their investigations.

This should chill you to the very core of your being.

Third Quarter GDP For 2008 Released

PRESS RELEASE

Real gross domestic product -- the output of goods and services produced by labor and property
located in the United States -- decreased at an annual rate of 0.3 percent in the third quarter of 2008, (that is, from the second quarter to the third quarter), according to advance estimates released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. In the second quarter, real GDP increased 2.8 percent.

The Bureau emphasized that the third-quarter "advance" estimates are based on source data that are incomplete or subject to further revision by the source agency (see the box on page 3). The third-quarter "preliminary" estimates, based on more comprehensive data, will be released on November 25, 2008.

The decrease in real GDP in the third quarter primarily reflected negative contributions from personal consumption expenditures (PCE), residential fixed investment, and equipment and software that were largely offset by positive contributions from federal government spending, exports, private inventory investment, nonresidential structures, and state and local government spending. Imports, which are a subtraction in the calculation of GDP, decreased.

Most of the major components contributed to the downturn in real GDP growth in the third quarter. The largest contributors were a sharp downturn in PCE for nondurable goods, a smaller decrease in imports, a larger decrease in PCE for durable goods, and a deceleration in exports. Notable offsets were an upturn in inventory investment and an acceleration in federal government spending.

Final sales of computers contributed 0.06 percentage point to the third-quarter change in real GDP after contributing 0.17 percentage point to the second-quarter change. Motor vehicle output contributed 0.09 percentage point to the third-quarter change in real GDP after subtracting 1.01 percentage points from the second-quarter change.

Well, this is surprising, with all the gloom and doom about the housing bubble and the resulting turmoil in the financial markets have only managed to drag it down to a -0.3% contraction instead of a steeper drop.

Now, if we get another contraction next quarter, we will officially be in a recession, that is...unless these figures aren't revised upward.

Here is my post upon the release of the second quarter data.

Here is data from the past year and change:

2008 3Q......-0.3%
2008 2Q......+3.3%
2008 1Q......+0.9%
2007 4Q......-0.2%
2007 3Q......+4.9%
2007 2Q......+3.8%

Here are the historical figures, the first column being the year and quarter, the second column being the GDP in current dollars, and the third column being in constant 2000 dollars.

A Glimpse of Inquisition

An excerpt from inside a script conference in Hollywood:

We're all on the same page, script-wise. I'm thinking: this is fab-u-lous, we're gonna make an excellent movie.

I'm also gripped with a huge sense of relief because the meeting did not include the standard and obligatory George Bush-is-worse-than-Hitler pre-meeting chat.

Yup, it's all smooth and professional — until the meeting devolves into sheer lunacy.

“Okay,” announces the senior studio executive, “I just want to make sure that everyone in this room is voting for Obama.”

To the left of me a junior executive goes: “Well, sure, of course.”

To the right of me another executive nods his head up and down like a bobble and mutters: “We need Obama so badly.”

Let's be honest, folks: I can just grunt in the affirmative and be done with the whole wretched ambush.

“Robert?”

The studio exec is smiling, all charm and fuzzy-wuzzy, but his eyes betray confusion. I mean, Hollywood is in the tank for Obama, all except for a handful of out-of-the closet Republicans and even more who dare not voice their conservative beliefs for fear of being blacklisted. This is not paranoia, It's just the way it is for Hollywood Republicans swimming in an ocean of liberals.

“Earth to Robert?”

All eyes are on me. My colleagues are shifting uncomfortably in their super-comfy leather chairs.

Everyone in Hollywood takes it for granted that if you work in Hollywood you are a Democrat. Hollywood people, whose job it is to imagine stuff, find it hard, if not impossible, to imagine a Republican in their midst.

I feel like a Marrano, a secret Jew, unveiled before the Inquisition.

A Report From The First Anniversary of President Obama's Election as President

As we approach the first anniversary of the election of Barack Obama as president of the United States, I find myself looking back at the last ten months. It's been a historic time, as we are reminded on an almost daily basis -- and, occasionally, as historically good as the media and the Democrats tell us.

Yes, I know it would be more fair and traditional to wait until the end of the year, or the anniversary of President Obama's inauguration, to sum things up, but I want to get a jump on things. And by things, I mean "all the other pundits."

On domestic matters, it should have come as no great surprise that President Obama would largely cede control of the agenda to Congress. His entire career up to the presidency was based on the "go along to get along" principle with his party leadership; at no point did he ever challenge the powers that be in the Illinois legislature or in the Senate. If he couldn't find it in himself to back them, he arranged to vote "present" or miss the vote entirely. Majority Leader Reid and Speaker Pelosi, secure in their electoral gains, made it abundantly clear after the election that they would be pushing their own plans forward at the earliest opportunity -- and President Obama, apparently not wanting to start a fight within his own party so soon after his victory, didn't contradict them.

And it's not been pretty.

Behind the Scenes at the Meet the Candidate BBQ Dinner with Pat McCrory

The Meet the Candidate BBQ Dinner this past Saturday in Franklin was a success!

I am re-posting the speech and my notes on his speech below my "Behind The Scenes" video:

And now for the speech:

Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory was the guest speaker at a Meet the Candidate & BBQ Dinner held in Franklin, NC and hosted by the Republican parties of Cherokee, Clay, Jackson, Macon and Swain Counties in western North Carolina.

Among the reasons he stated for why he was running was to tame the egos and fight corruption in Raleigh. He said he wanted to bring back good government to North Carolina, that we were once known as the good government state...and we now have ten people in prison so far for corruption in government.

He said that recently, a $9 million jet was ordered for the state government, but the order was cancelled once word got out about it. McCrory wants to bring transparency to state government.

He spoke to the economic concerns of North Carolinians and touted his 28 years in the private sector and 13 in the public sector as part of his experience.

He said that he wanted to do 3 things to put North Carolina back on the right path:

#1) Build relationships with large and medium size industries in the state based on respect-not to treat them as the enemy. He said that we could not compete with surrounding states, including South Carolina and Virginia as states with lower income tax, and that we were not even in the same league as Tennessee...a state with no income tax. The crowd responded to his desire to lower the tat income tax with cheers and applause.

#2) He wants North Carolina to get into the energy business. He said that right now, the United States had to depend on nations like Nigeria, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia and Russia for our energy needs. He said that puts our National Security and our Economy at risk.

He said North Carolina should be part of the solution. He said we can drill for natural gas and oil offshore and generate new jobs doing so. He said that he is also in favor of nuclear, clean coal, wind and solar energy, and that he also was in favor of conservation.

He related that his opponent had stated hat she was 100% opposed to offshore drilling for natural gas and oil ten weeks ago at a Farm Bureau Speech, and that it wouldn't happen on her watch. McCrory said that that was correct, "It's going to happen under my watch," to the cheers of the crowd.

#3) Get back to the basics of education, and offer students the option of choosing vocational training instead of a college-bound curriculum. He said that our employers needed skilled workers, and vocational training could provide that for them. It would, he said, help recruit new industries and businesses if we were producing skilled workers.

He related the latest Rasmussen Poll that showed Pat McCrory with 51% to is opponents' 47%.

He said that the Power Elite in Raleigh were stunned, and that in short order, a series of negative ads were produced about him that, he joked, caused him to decide not to vote for himself to the amusement of the crowd.

He said the ads were false and misleading and that Bev Perdue would say or do anything to stay elected, including not telling the truth.

There were three lies he wanted to address, the first being that Pat McCrory wanted to dump garbage from New York City in North Carolina. He said that when he heard it, he had no idea where it was coming from...and that she was making this up. He said that in his years as Mayor of Charlotte, he had never supported a bill that would allow the dumping of garbage from New York City in North Carolina. He said that the newspapers even said it was a lie.

He said, "We fought a tax, and they converted it into a negative ad. This is the type of deception that we must end in Raleigh politics."

The second lie was that he hired illegal immigrants to build the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

"Just the Opposite," McCrory said. e was the first mayor in the nation to lead a discussion on illegal immigration which stated that the net cost of illegal immigration was greater than the net gain. He specifically listed the costs to hospitals, jails and schools.

He stated that he had warned that illegal immigrants could find their way into construction jobs in Charlotte and, "...we need to make sure that doesn't happen..." and that he did make sure it was put in writing that those who contracted with Charlotte "followed the law" in city construction projects.

The third lie McCrory wished to address was that he was against rural roads.

He said that what he was against was putting the roads where the powerful politicians live. He said the roads should go where the need is.

He said that he has been fighting the DOT (Dept of Transportation) for 13 years, that it has become so politicized that the party registrations of DOT workers were checked. Pat McCrory said that that was not right, that he didn't care what party a NC-DOT worker belonged, only that they were a good worker. He said he wanted to take politics out of the DOT.

He began to wrap up with informing the crowd that millions of dollars were being poured into negative ads about him, and that he was not going to do negative ads, and that he didn't in the primary, nor as mayor. He stated that he believed, "...a good candidate with a little money is better than a bad candidate with a lot of money." This was met with approval and cheers from the crowd.

We are going to change North Carolina politics forever, he told those gathered. We are going o prove that you don't have to run an 8 year campaign for governor, and that you don't have to be a millionaire to hold public office, and most importantly, that you can do it running a positive campaign.

He addressed the need for everyone present to get out the vote on election day, and that the next week and a half were going to be the most crucial in our state's history...that "...we have an opportunity to change the status quo in state government," and, "have a governor that will participate in problem solving."

He said, that as governor, he was going to concentrate on economic development, jobs, and protecting the quality of life in North Carolina. He said it was time that all areas of our state were represented in our state capital.

He ended by repeating his exhortation to get out the vote.

**11.39am** Richard Bernier also attended an event with Pat McCrory, and his video is posted on the Buncombe County GOP website.

I have never met a legislator who harbors more contempt for the law-abiding firearm owner than does Barack Obama

PRESS RELEASE

CHICAGO, Oct 20, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The following was released today by the ISRA Political Victory Fund (ISRA-PVF):

The ISRA-PVF is warning Cook County (IL) voters that Democratic candidate Anita Alvarez is unsuitable for the position of Cook County State's Attorney. This warning comes in light of statements made by Alvarez during an interview taped for the cable-TV show, "Public Affairs with Jeff Berkowitz." The video of the Alvarez interview may be seen at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuYiacyAUDU.

During her December 9, 2007 interview with Berkowitz, Alvarez states that a homeowner does not have the right to use a firearm to defend family and self from home invaders. Alvarez goes on to state that women do not have a right to use a gun to defend themselves against violent assault or to defend themselves from abusive spouses. Later in the interview, Alvarez states that she does not "believe in" the 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and that she would support a law that would both prevent anyone from purchasing firearms, and provide for the confiscation of firearms owned by law-abiding citizens.

"Anita Alvarez possesses a seriously flawed view of the U.S. Constitution along with a cavalier disregard for the safety of law-abiding citizens," commented ISRA-PVF spokesman Richard Pearson. "That's a bad combination for the crime-weary citizens of Cook County."

"Alvarez holds to the gun control movement's tired notion that people who are robbed, raped and murdered are just victims of a bad roll of the dice," continued Pearson. "Alvarez makes her feelings perfectly clear in the TV interview. As far as Alvarez is concerned, if the police arrive in time to save a victim, fine. If not, then the victim just becomes another statistic. To Anita Alvarez, achieving the political objective of banning guns is more important than saving innocent lives."

"Cook County needs a State's Attorney who will be tough on crime while respecting the rights of law-abiding citizens," said Pearson. "What Cook County doesn't need is another dreamy-eyed gun controller like Anita Alvarez as its top law-enforcement officer. That is why the ISRA-PVF has endorsed the candidacy of Tony Peraica for Cook County State's Attorney."

The ISRA-PVF is a political action committee affiliated with the Illinois State Rifle Association. A copy of our report is available for a fee from the Illinois State Board of Elections.

Preliminary Report on Sarah Palin Visit to Asheville

Here is a preliminary post on the Sarah Palin visit to Asheville, NC.

I hope that the local and state GOP operatives realize that hey should be processing their video, audio, photos and writing up the speech in a timely fashion...because in 24 hours, this will be old news. The National News Cycle runs fast, unlike the slower regional news cycle.
Max Cooper has some excellent photos on his blog. At this point, I believe he was the only conservative blogger there, although he doesn't do commentary...just photos.

This first video is by Richard Bernier, who seems to enjoy poking fun in this video at the group of Bloggers I consider to be my arch-rivals, the Scrutiny Hooligans. Richard Bernier and Randy Thomas have a show called "Sound Off Buncombe" that airs on the public access station in Asheville. His show is on Thursday nights and they are now live-streaming.

Speaking of the Hooligans, the crowd there had good coverage from the outside of the event, with an open thread of the Zombie Walk, and they found themselves subject to the lack of Tech Support inside the Civic Center (as I was) and we were all in the dark when the Internet feeds went down. I was keeping watch over 9 separate video feeds, and they all went down...with the WLOSers going first, and a couple of guerrilla feeds from inside the crowd lasting the longest, working on wireless connections. I don't think the event planners took demand into account. The most important part of a National Event like this is getting the word out (preferably live) and in this regard, it was an EPIC FAIL. Wasn't there a more modern facility they could have chosen?

The DUmmies at Democratic Underground had threads up concerning the protests mounted by Obama Supporters, and here is a photo I swiped from this thread:

Of course, another lefty, AshVegas had coverage (I consider his coverage the best I have found so far) an includes a video of the Zombie Walk, his MountainX operation, and his early photo of a Palin Suporter.

I will have more as the stragglers beg to post video, photos, and their observations of the events.

**7.54am** I forgot to link to Tim Peck's photos. They have some good wide-angle shots.

Where You Can Watch Sarah Palin Speak Live in Asheville

Player Courtesy Asheville-Citizen Times

**6.44pm** Speech pushed back to 8pm. I assume that means everything alse is pushed back an hour...so, between 7pm and 7.30pm things will start.

I will not be attending the Sarah Palin Rally in Asheville tonight, nor will I be able to see it live because of my cranky Internet Provider...Verizon DSL, which has been conking out on me in the afternoons, and only working in the mornings.

So, I am posting this a bit early so YOU can at least watch it live. Also, Richard Bernier and Randy Thomas will be filming it, so I expect that they and the others at URTV will be able to put something out within a few days.

The doors open at 4pm, and the Governor will be speaking at around 6pm...eh, make that 7pm or later, I have been watching the other rallies online, and she is getting farther and farther behind schedule...

Probably the best place to watch the speech itself is the
WLOS Live page, and a good backup will be the McCain Ustream Page...though they seem not to webcast every speech given by their ticket.

Pat McCrory Campaigns in Franklin, North Carolina

Creepy New Age "Obama Manfesto" Re-emerges

People need to remember that, on the Intenet, nothing really goes away...especially if someone downloads it before it can be removed.

Hat Tip: bobaloo

Read more about it at News Busters. I understand it was filmed in Asheville...figures, does it not?

I will be at the Pat McCrory Dinner this evening, and will be streaming a portion of it live, starting around 5pm, especially since I won't be ble to attend the Palin Rally tomorrow night in Asheville.

Most Accurate Pollster In 2004 Election Shows…Obama 44.8%, McCain 43.7%

Go see Papa Mike for the detailed breakdowns...

Remember that most of the Legacy Media (including the pollsters) are firmly in the tank for Obama, and part of their game plan is to discourage conservatives and Christians from turning out to vote by telling us that their man Obama has already won.

Do James Taylor Concerts Equal Vote Buying?

Buncombe County Board of Elections meeting October 22, 2008 "Free concert tickets at early voting By Richard Bernier

This was taken by Richard Bernier of Sound Off Buncombe.

**8.28am** Apparently this is not the video thought it was...it appears to be just a regular meeting of the Buncombe County Elections Board. I apologise for the error on my part in misunderstanding what was in the video. I am 15 minutes along, and there is nothing regarding the GOP concerns...

**8.33am** Ha! So much for me freaking out. The issue of the Taylor Concerts is raised at the 18 minute mark...about 30 seconds before I was going to bail on the video...

Sarah Palin in Asheville Sunday;
Pat McCrory in Macon County Saturday

>

Well, I step away from the computer for eighteen hours and look what happens...mayhem!!!

I knew something was up when I opened my inbox this morning and found about three hundred emails with Sarah Palin somewhere in the subject line.

You can RSVP here, and updated info on the Rally will be here, or you can print tickets from this pdf file.

As expected, the local lefties will be in full bloom for our documentation to the nation at just how nutty and hateful the local progressives are, and read this Topix thread if you don't believe me...

I may or may not provide live streaming from inside the venue, depending on whether or not the McCain people do, or WLOS does [WLOS Livepage]. I will post links for whatever is happening.

I will be spending a big chunk of today prepping for Saturday's McCrory Dinner at Macon Middle School.

This will be a busy weekend, indeed.

**8.25am** AshVegas looks into the future, reports on his vision for Sunday.

Morning at the Bus Stop

Fun with pictures!!!

Ron Howard, Andy Griffith and Henry Winkler Are For Obama

Anyone surprised? Not me. The manufactured avalanche of endorsements for Obama is not impressing me.

If you can stomach it, there is a video of their endorsement on Huffington Post.

Personally, I'll not spend another dime on viewing a film project these people are involved in...unless they recant.

Hat Tip: Under The Dome

“they estimated that they’d have to eliminate 25 million people in these re‑education centers…”

This estimation was made in Cuba in the presence of several members of The Weathermen terrorist group to which William Ayers (friend of Obama) belonged to:

Grathwohl: I brought up the subject of what's going to happen after we take over the government. You know, we become responsible for administrating, you know, 250 million people. And there was no answer. No one had given any thought to economics. How are you going to clothe and feed these people? The only thing that I could get was that they expected that the Cubans, the North Vietnamese, the Chinese and the Russians would all want to occupy different portions of the United States. They also believed that their immediate responsibility would be to protect against what they called the counter-revolution. And they felt that this counter-revolution could best be guarded against by creating and establishing re-education in the Southwest where we would take all of the people who needed to be re‑educated into the new way of thinking and teach them how things were going to be. I asked, "Well, what is going to happen to those people that we can't re‑educate, that are die-hard capitalists?" And the reply was that they'd have to be eliminated and when I pursued this further, they estimated that they'd have to eliminate 25 million people in these re‑education centers. And when I say eliminate, I mean kill 25 million people. I want you to imagine sitting in a room with 25 people, most of whom have graduate degrees from Columbia and other well-known educational centers and hear them figuring out the logistics for the elimination of 25 million people and they were dead serious.

Commentary

You need to remember this when you hear someone say that they want "social justice" because that is just code for communism and the wholesale slaughter of those who disagree once they establish their order.

You need to remember stuff like this when you some doped out teenager or aging hippy wearing a shirt with Che's mass-murdering face on it. Not all the people on the left are supporters of mass murders...but they are useful idiots who will vote in people who are more than happy to establish the above mentioned pogrom.
